Common materials and application scope of O-rings

O-rings are currently the most widely used seals. Because of different working conditions, the requirements for their use are also different, so many different types of seals have appeared on the market. According to the materials used, it can be divided into many types. Today we will look at the two questions "What are its common materials?" and "What ranges are suitable for the use of seals of different materials?"

The technicians of Jinshun Sealing tell you: Common materials mainly include fluorosilicone rubber, nitrile rubber, hydrogenated nitrile rubber, fluorine rubber, butyl rubber, silicone rubber, etc.

1. Nitrile rubber

This material has a relatively low cost and is widely used. The seals produced with it are often suitable for use in media such as water, silicone oil, and glycol hydraulic oil, but are not suitable for sealing polar solutions.

2. Hydrogenated nitrile rubber

This material has excellent compression resistance, tear resistance, and corrosion resistance. Because it can resist the damage of ozone and oil pollution very well, it is often used in washing machinery, vehicle engines, and refrigeration systems, but it is not suitable for aromatic, ester, and alcohol solvents.

3. Fluorine rubber

This material has good resistance to high temperature, ozone and weather, but not cold. It is generally suitable for use in fuel systems and chemical plants, but not in mixtures containing nitro or ketones.

4. Fluorosilicone rubber

This material can well resist the erosion of oxygen-containing compounds, fluorine-containing solvents and aromatic solvents, and has a certain oil resistance. It is usually used in aviation, aerospace and military fields, and is generally not used in ketone substances.

5. Butyl rubber

The heat resistance, air tightness and insulation of the cover material are good. It is suitable for use in chemical resistance and vacuum equipment. It is generally not suitable for use with petroleum, kerosene and aromatic substances.

6. Silicone rubber

This material has good cold resistance, heat resistance and ozone resistance, but it is not oil resistant and has poor tensile properties. It is usually suitable for use in household appliances.

The above are the common materials and usage ranges of O-rings. After reading this, we can know that there are many production materials for sealing rings. Because different materials have different properties, their usage ranges are also different.
